Duties: Complete campus assessment of climate vulnerabilities and greenhouse gas inventory; identify greenhouse gas reduction strategies; develop fiscally responsible action steps to reduce climate vulnerabilities; develop community partnerships; encourage campus and community-engaged teaching and research.

a)The Sustainability Committee shall consist of seven faculty members, the sustainability coordinator, the Executive Director of Facility Operations, and one student representing the GREENadiers. Each of the six schools with elected senators and the Library faculty shall select its own representative on the committee. These representatives shall serve two-year staggered terms. The Executive Director of Facility Operations and sustainability coordinator shall serve as an ex-officio member of the committee.

Current Charge
b)It shall be the responsibility of this committee to gather information from various administrative offices, faculty groups, community groups, and student groups regarding campus plans that include sustainability goals and make recommendations to the administration regarding sustainability plans and policies. It shall keep the Senate informed of sustainability matters and when appropriate shall make recommendations to the Senate concerning improving sustainability efforts on campus. The committee will consult with the Vice Chancellor for Administrative Affairs, providing faculty input to the ongoing strategic planning process in regard to sustainability. The Vice-Chancellor of Administrative Affairs or other administrators with relevant knowledge will be invited to attend meetings on sustainability issues beyond topics relevant to campus facilities.
There have been proposed changes to the charge, but those changes have not been approved by the Faculty Senate as of right now.

Duties: Gather information from various schools, offices, and groups regarding campus sustainability goals and plans; make recommendations to the administration regarding sustainability plans and policies; make recommendations to the Senate concerning campus sustainability efforts. Identify opportunities for student service-learning and integration of sustainability into the curriculum; identify research opportunities for faculty and students.

STARS Researcher and Writer is a part-time position and is the first paid vocation specifically related to sustainability at IUS. The posting was published in November 2021 to oversee the STARS submission. The candidate was hired once the posting closed. The submission of this STARS report will be the first substantive accomplishment of the university as it relates to having a designated sustainability officer.
