Documentation

A copy of the institution’s inventory of its sustainability course offerings and descriptions:
Do the figures reported above cover one, two, or three academic years?:
Two

A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :
The course inventory was extracted from the IU undergraduate and graduate course bulletins for the following academic years: 2019-2021 and 2021-2023.
The course bulletin for 2021-2023 reflects courses that will be taught throughout the reflected time period.
IU offers a 100% online consortial program so courses were also extracted from the following IU course bulletins if those exact courses were listed on the IUS course bulletins and for the same fiscal years.
• IUE- IU East
• IUK- IU Kokomo
• IUNW- IU Northwest
• IUSB- IU South Bend
• IUPUI- Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis
• IUB- IU Bloomington

Courses that were chosen have been approved for the following degree programs:
• Bachelors of Applied Science-Specialization Track: Sustainability
• Bachelors of Science- Sustainability and Regeneration
• Bachelors of Arts- Sustainability and Regeneration
• Minor in Sustainability and Regeneration
• Certificate in Sustainability

How to navigate the Excel spreadsheet:
Tab 1- Summary

Tab 2- IUS Sustainability Courses
• This tab provides the entire sustainability course inventory.
• Each column has a filter that will allow you to organize the sheet according to your viewing preference.
o An example of this is filtering sustainability-related or inclusive courses, course level, and course
title.
• SDGs have also been indicated per course if the course has been determined to fit an SGD goal. A "Y" will
be located in the cell if a course has been assigned to an SDG.

Tab 3- Course to Program + Acad. Grp.
• This tab, breaks down each IUS degree program that offers the sustainability-related or inclusive courses
depicted in Tab 2.
• When reviewing this tab you will notice that it is color coated. The following reflects how the sheet should be read.
o “Academic Group”-is color-coded to show which school at IUS offers the course.
o “Total SUST Course per Academic Group”- shows the total number of courses offered i.e. the IUS School
of Natural Science offers 66 sustainability-related or inclusive courses that have been extracted from
Tab 2.
o “Color Coded | Course Title | Connected to the Specific IU Location that Offers the Course”- This
section depicts 7 IU campuses with an assigned color. Those colors correspond to the “Course Title”
section under each degree program. The course title is assigned the color specific to which location
offers the course.
o IU offers a 100% online consortial program which is why these course titles are color specific to
which campus it is taught at.

• Tab 4- IUS SUST Keyword Used
o This is a list of words used to filter sustainability courses, descriptions, and titles.

As mentioned, SDGs were used as a tool to determine the selection of courses.

How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
