Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
March Madness Sustainability Committee
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
IUPUI Sustainability Director was the co-chair of the 2021 March Madness tournament, held entirely in Indiana due to the COVID-19 pandemic. IUPUI’s Office of Sustainability led the efforts to quantify emissions from the tournament by collecting operations data from all tournament venues during practice and game days and conducting a greenhouse gas emission assessment. The data was used to quantify the greenhouse gas footprint, and this determined the amount of carbon offsets necessary for procurement to achieve a scope 1 and 2 carbon-neutral March Madness.
