Faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in courses, workshops, conferences, Green Bag Luncheons, presentations, and other activities supported by the Office of Sustainability. The Office of Sustainability also regularly makes presentations on Sustainability to the IUPUI Faculty & Staff Councils. A few of the recent courses offered: Tree Planting Basics, BeeKeeping Basics, Urban Gardening.
During Earth Month 2020, the IUPUI Office of Sustainability hosted a number of webinars covering many topics including; Psychology & Sustainable Behavior, Carbon Neutrality, Sustainability 101, Greenspaces, Mulching, Tree Pruning, Pollinators, Garden Prep, Earth Day, Recycling, Energy, Food Insecurity, Sustainability Career Preparation

The IUPUI Office of Sustainability has also hosted the 2018 & 2019 Indianapolis Sustainability Summits in collaboration with the Indianapolis' Office of Sustainability. The 2018 Summits highlighted the impact of collaborative efforts in advancing sustainability and building a stronger Indianapolis community. The agenda featured breakout sessions about built environment, community resilience, public health, environmental policy, food, mobility, sustainable business practices, waste and water. Sessions were facilitated by experts from throughout the Midwest. The summit kicked off with a keynote address delivered by Mark "Puck" Mykleby, former special strategic assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The 2019 Indianapolis Sustainability Summit, at which business, nonprofit and civic leaders will discuss the new Marion County sustainability plan. The daylong summit focused on the eight elements of Thrive Indianapolis: built environment, economy, energy, food and urban agriculture, natural resources, public health and safety, transportation and land use, and waste and recycling.
The 2020 Indiana Sustainability & Resilience Conference was hosted virtually on 09/1-09/2/20 by the IUPUI Office of Sustainability and made possible by the McKinney Family Foundation. The Conference aims to be a productive, annual gathering of sustainability professionals and champions from across the state of Indiana. It is designed to showcase local successes, share best practices, engage in place-based problem solving, and facilitate collaboration to advance sustainability in the Hoosier state. The inaugural Indiana Sustainability and Resilience Conference, presented by the Indianapolis Airport Authority, explored the theme, Sustainability as an Economic Driver. Many IUPUI faculty and staff presented and participated in this virtual training opportunity.

The IUPUI Staff Council provides funding support through the Staff Professional Development Grants (SPDG) program to award recognition and financial support to individual staff members to engage in professional development activities that align with the IUPUI Strategic Plan, contribute to the success of IUPUI, and enhance the professional growth of the staff member.

The IUPUI Office of Sustainability has 3 FT Staff and on average, 12 student interns. Each of these positions include Sustainability initiatives, goals and outcomes as part of their roles/responsibilities and is the basis for their performance reviews and in alignment with our IUPUI Sustainability Strategic plan and initiatives.
