In the fall of 2017, IUPUI redesigned the student housing recycling program. New bins, informational signage and banners were designed and employed in all residence halls. Every student received a recycling bag during move in, designed for individual collection of recyclables to periodically deposit the contents in the common recycling bins in each residence hall's waste and recycling center. By the spring of 2018, in-room recycling bins were provided to every student living in IUPUI's North Hall. Optional Fields
The University hosts a kids summer camp every summer and in 2018 and 2019, IUPUI Sustainability hosted a three to five day section on sustainability. In 2019, we hosted a group of kids ages 9-13 for three days where they learned about various aspects of sustainability. They conducted a diversity assessment by walking through the Lilly ARBOR and making observations about the plants and animals they encountered. They learned how to identify and measure trees on campus for our tree canopy assessment. They learned about renewable energy sources, including solar and wind using interactive models. They worked in the garden, where they learned about organic agriculture, healthy soil and the importance of pollinators. Lastly, they toured our Campus Center where they learned about IUPUI's recycling and composting efforts, Paws Pantry, and Paws Closet.
