A brief description of the facilities for bicycle commuters:
The university has one indoor bike storage facility in the Tower Garage. Access is free to any IUPUI student, faculty or staff member who registers a bicycle, which is also free to do. Numerous buildings across campus offer showers and storage facilities, including: - HITS: storage and showers - Walther Hall: storage and showers - Rotary: storage and showers - Lockefield Village: storage and showers - Hine Hall: storage - University Hall: showers - NIFS (campus recreation partner): facilities for bicycle commuters on a membership basis which includes a kit locker, shower access and sauna, whirlpool, steam room access in addition to secure bike lockers. The IUPUI campus features 109 outdoor bike racks: https://www.parking.iupui.edu/docs/Permit_Map_Bikes.pdf The university has one indoor bike storage facility in the Tower Garage. Access is free to any IUPUI student, faculty or staff member who registers a bicycle, which is also free to do. This facility is located adjacent to the Tower Residence Facility.

A brief description of the bicycle and pedestrian plan or policy:
The City of Indianapolis adopted a complete streets policy in 2012: "The ordinance defines a complete street as one that is designed and operated to enable safe access for all users: Pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and public transportation users of all ages and abilities are able to safely move along and across a street. The policy ensures that public and private entities plan for all transportation modes when developing a new land use or right-of-way projects." See full ordinance here: http://www.indy.gov/eGov/Council/Proposals/Documents/2012/PROP12-208.pdf The IUPUI Master Plan contains a detailed description of the campus efforts to incorporate bicycle and foot traffic into the campus culture. Some of these feature include overhead skywalks, incorporation of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, bicycle lanes, and improvements in landscape (including tree coverage) to make pedestrian areas more appealing. A brief description of the bicycle sharing program:
Indiana Pacers Bikeshare is a public bike share program, maintained and operated by Indianapolis Cultural Trail Inc. Pacers Bikeshare’s downtown-focused network includes 50 stations and 525 bikes. Bikes are accessible 24/7. Pacers Bikeshare is $1 to ride and 15 cents per minute for the duration of the trip with no time limitations. Annual passes can be purchased for $80 for unlimited 30 minute trips for any trips lasting longer than 30 minutes will be charged 15 cents per minute. and can be adjusted for those of limited means. Thirty-minute rides are included in the price of all passes, with additional fees incurred for longer ride. Pacers Bikeshare stations on the IUPUI campus include one station across from the Campus Center, and one station outside the Gateway parking garage at Michigan and Blackford Streets and a new station added at Michigan across from the Cancer Pavilion There is also one station at Eskenazi Health, one at White River State Park and a new one added off White River Parkway just south of campus.For more details: https://www.pacersbikeshare.org/

Mass Transit Programs 

Does the institution offer free or reduced price transit passes and/or operate a free campus shuttle for commuters?:

A brief description of the mass transit programs:
IUPUI and IndyGo (Indianapolis' local public transit corp.) have partnered to provide current IUPUI students with an "S pass" that allows students to ride any of IndyGo’s 27 fixed routes including the Red Line at a discounted rate. IUPUI students may obtain an S Pass for $30 (half the standard rate) at the Jagtag office located in the Campus Center. The partnership between IUPUI and IndyGo was established to provide students with an affordable and sustainable mode of transportation to school, home and work. The IndyGo Red Line Rapid Transit system is scheduled to go live Fall, 2019. The Red Line is one component of the larger Marion County Transit Plan Phase 1 of the Red Line Rapid Transit (BRT) project will run from Broad Ripple through downtown Indy to the University of Indianapolis, connecting several neighborhoods, major employers and cultural institutions with frequent, comfortable rapid transit service. The IUPUI campus shuttle service will provide a connection to the Red Line as a convenient way for students, staff and faculty to get to/from campus utilizing mass transit.

Guaranteed Return Trip Program

IUPUI has partnered with Central Indiana Regional Transportation Authority (CIRTA) and their Commuter Connect program. Emergency Ride Home (ERH) is a service provided by Commuter Connect for all qualified carpoolers, vanpoolers, walkers, bikers, and transit riders working for the university. IUPUI Police offers SafeWalk, an escort program for all IUPUI students and staff. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at no cost. Carpool/Vanpool Programs

IUPUI is partnered with the Central Indiana Regional Transportation Authority (CIRTA) in their Commuter Connect program. The Commuter Connect program teams with central Indiana employers to find alternate transportation options for their employees. These options include carpooling, vanpooling, transit, biking, and walking. IUPUI Parking encourages faculty and staff to join other employees to carpool to work through their carpool program, offering a 50% discount and ten 1-day temporary parking permits to each member of the carpool. The IUPUI campus features two car-sharing program. The Zipcar program offers the IUPUI community a variety of cars on demand, by the hour or the day. There are two Zipcar pick-up/drop-off locations on campus. Additionally, the BlueIndy electric vehicle, one-way car sharing program with 200 stations throughout Indianapolis. The IUPUI campus hosts one station near the Campus Center, where 5 electric vehicles are stationed. Other BLueIndy stations are available in other nearby downtown locations.

EV Recharging Stations 

Does the institution have one or more Level 2 or Level 3 electric vehicle recharging stations that are accessible to student and employee commuters?:

A brief description of the electric vehicle recharging stations:
The BlueIndy station on campus offers charging stations for up to five electric vehicles at a rate of $2/hour or $20/year. These charging stations are available to anyone on campus. There are 10 electrical plugs available in Gateway Garage for EV owners to bring a portable charger. This garage is open to both students, employees and visitors. There are six EV charging stations that available only to faculty and staff. Two are located behind the Health Sciences building, two in the Vermont Street Garage, and two in Lot 103 for Life Omics.

The university has guidelines on telecommuting in non-emergency situations, emergency situations, and for off-campus positions. The university does allow telecommuting in non-emergency situations and for off campus employees when requested and upon reaching a written agreement, so long as the employee can or must perform their responsibilities remotely. Telecommuting is also allowed for employees whose responsibilities can be performed outside the traditional office setting during emergency or adverse situations such as due to weather, a pandemic, or an unsafe working environment. A brief description of the condensed work week option:
University polices allow for alternative work arrangements in which staff employees work full time, but in different configurations of hours. Any Staff employee may request to work an alternative work schedule unless the employee's position is excluded either by the operating unit due to operating needs or by university policy. Employees must simply submit a written request to their supervisor and so long as quantity, quality, and timeliness of employee work be maintained, reasonable efforts will be made to accommodate such requests. Such arrangements are not only acceptable, but a potentially positive way to meet the childcare, family care, and other personal needs of employees while still permitting departments to operate in an efficient manner. IUPUI is among a select group of businesses to participate in Indianapolis’ inaugural Anchor Housing program, offered through the Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership (INHP) and the Indy Chamber. This program offers qualified full-time employees financial assistance to help purchase a home or repair the exterior of a home in select neighborhoods around the IUPUI campus. University employees who want to purchase a new home or make exterior repairs to their current house can now take advantage of financial assistance in three more neighborhoods: Joining portions of Near West are portions of Riverside, Ransom Place and River West. https://www.inhp.org/anchorhousing/iupui

In association with our LEED Buildings, we do offer designated spaces for fuel-efficient vehicle parking as space and location allows. Current location example is at University Hall, the campus administration building.
