A brief description of the institution’s employee community service initiatives:
In the Fall of 2018, Indiana University approved a staff volunteer service leave policy: http://webtest.iu.edu/~uhrs/relations/volunteer-leave.html
In AY19, IUPUI sponsored a Habitat for Humanity house build which involved 280 staff, students and faculty from 22 schools, units and organizations over 24 build days. IUPUI also hosted a Day of Service targeted at staff participation on April 5, 2019. One hundred and fifty-five people participated, of whom 70% were staff. The projects completed on that day were identified by community members as their priorities and included park clean ups, tilling of garden beds and installation of benches in a fruit tree garden.

Student Transcripts: Service learning courses have an "S" designation. Course designations are determined by the faculty and upon completion of the course, faculty indicate which students completed the community service portion of the course at the same time they are entering grades. The notation is then included on the student's transcript.
In AY19, IUPUI launched the Experiential and Applied Learning Record which enables students to document co-curricular learning that occurs through approved university experiences.
