Faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in courses, workshops, conferences, Green Bag Luncheons, presentations, and other activities supported by the Office of Sustainability. The Office of Sustainability also regularly makes presentations on Sustainability to the IUPUI Faculty & Staff Councils. A few of the recent courses offered: Tree Planting Basics, BeeKeeping Basics, Urban Gardening.
The IUPUI Office of Sustainability has also hosted the 2018 & 2019 Indianapolis Sustainability Summits in collaboration with the Indianapolis' Office of Sustainability. The 2018 Summits highlighted the impact of collaborative efforts in advancing sustainability and building a stronger Indianapolis community. The agenda featured breakout sessions about built environment, community resilience, public health, environmental policy, food, mobility, sustainable business practices, waste and water. Sessions were facilitated by experts from throughout the Midwest. The summit kicked off with a keynote address delivered by Mark "Puck" Mykleby, former special strategic assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The 2019 Indianapolis Sustainability Summit, at which business, nonprofit and civic leaders will discuss the new Marion County sustainability plan. The daylong summit focused on the eight elements of Thrive Indianapolis: built environment, economy, energy, food and urban agriculture, natural resources, public health and safety, transportation and land use, and waste and recycling.
