A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation (including how multiple dimensions of sustainability are addressed):
The OTEAM (an undergraduate student leadership group dedicated to engaging new students and families as they attend orientation and begin classes at IUPUI) is trained by the Office of Sustainability on all university sustainability initiatives and programs, so that they can communicate them to all incoming students as they go through orientation. The OTEAM will tour the campus gardens, detail recycling efforts, outline sustainable modes of transportation, advise new students on financial wellness, and more. The practice of sustainability is also demonstrated to new students by handing out minimal paper and using only reusable or recyclable materials during orientation. Additionally, all students going through orientation are provided with branded water tumblers and reusable straws, initiating them early on in the university's culture of environmental responsibility.
At the beginning of each academic year, IUPUI hosts an Involvement Expo, which is a campus-wide event showcasing programming on campus. IUPUI Sustainability, Campus Kitchen at IUPUI, Energy Club, Student Sustainability Council, IUPUI Cycling Club, and other sustainability-focused organizations are present yearly.
Graduate student orientation is typically handled by each individual program. However, there are common orientation resources provided to all graduate students that include sustainability components/programming they may take advantage of: https://graduate.iupui.edu/support/orientation.html
