A brief description of the institution’s green event certification program:
The Green Events program aims to accomplish five things: 1) provide resources to event planners, 2) evaluate planner’s sustainability initiatives, 3) provide opportunities of reflection and compare organization’s event sustainability, 4) inform and educate participants about simple green initiatives, and 5) compose a list of local, community resources.

By providing these tools to campus and community event planners, IU hopes to limit food and solid waste, support the local community, and, ultimately, make hosting a sustainable event easier.

Transportation question: • Participants are encouraged to use alternative modes of transportation or to otherwise reduce their use of fossil fuels; Venue is easily accessible for attendees by foot, bicycle, or public transportation; Secure bicycle and locker storage is provided for attendees... etc.

Catering: Reusable dishware will be used OR materials will be recyclable or compostable and recycling/composting will be provided; All food served will be vegetarian/vegan... etc.

Energy: Reserve event space in a LEED certified building; Choose a venue and meeting time to ensure event can utilize daylight

Waste: Any prizes or giveaways will be sustainable and useful, or no giveaways are provided; Decorations are reusable, or no decorations will be used...etc.

Communications: Event uses paperless communications for advertising, registration,
announcements, and updates; Digital Certified Green Event logos will be sent to successful applicants to broadcast their event. Reusable Certified Green Event signs may also be lent to interested hosts.
