Indiana University Bloomington is a member of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) and University Director of Sustainability, Bill Brown, has served as an elected officer on the board of AASHE and on the STARS Steering Committee.

IU Bloomington collaborates with peer institutions as a member of Big 10 and Friends Environmental Stewardship Council, Big 10 Sustainability Directors, and Indiana Green Campus Network organizations. We also coordinate a network of sustainability stakeholders for our seven Indiana University campuses and are starting an Indiana Sustainability Development Program, which will network Indiana sustainability organizations, professionals, and students.

At the 2016 AASHE Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, IUB Associate Director of Sustainability, Andrew Predmore, and student intern, Zoe Need, presented a session titled "When Academic Engagement Improves University Operations: IU Bloomington’s Tree Inventory". Andrew Predmore also presented on "Elevating Sustainability through Undergraduate Research at Indiana University: Program Design and Learning Outcomes".

Prior to this, IU Office of Sustainability staff have presented at local, state and national sustainability conferences and have been active participants in organizing inter-campus collaborations for AASHE, the Greening of Campuses Conferences at Ball State University, Big Ten and Friends Sustainability Group, the Indiana Green Campuses Network and the Mid America Prosperity and Security Economic Development Cluster (which recognizes that our future prosperity and security depend on sustainability and resilience). The University Director of Sustainability and the co-chair of IUB's Campus Sustainability Advisory Board have both presented IU's sustainability work at regional conferences of GLACUHO, NACUBO and NAEP. Indiana University makes resources public through the Office of Sustainability website, which is available for other institutions.

IU Director of Sustainability, Bill Brown, has served on the AASHE Executive Board and on the STARS Steering Committee within the last three years. He also currently serves on the board of the Higher Education Cleantech Consortium.

IU Bloomington has assisted Depauw University, Indiana State University, Butler University, Franklin College, University of Southern Indiana and other in-state colleagues with their sustainability initiatives in the role of peer mentor or free consultant or speaker over the years. Former Indiana University Bloomington sustainability interns have gone on to careers as sustainability coordinators at Oberlin College, Butler University, and Utah State and we mentor them and invite them to mentor us as well! We have also assisted other IU campuses through on-campus visits and organize an annual Statewide Sustainability Summit where best practices are shared. We regularly collaborate with other institutions in our local and regional networks.

IU Bloomington has assisted with the Big Ten and Friends development of metrics and strategic planning and we are piloting Common Ground initiatives in collaboration with other Common Ground institutions. IU Bloomington is also a charter member of the Higher Education Cleantech Consortium.
