A brief description of the natural wastewater systems used to handle the institution’s wastewater:
All wastewater is discharged to City of Bloomington sanitary sewer system for treatment at one of their two wastewater treatment facilities.
However, IU Bloomington is taking a number of steps related to stormwater management and wetland restoration. Through Environmental Health and Safety, IU has had a Storm Water Quality and Management Program since 2005. The program has included students undertaking storm water monitoring, inspecting construction sites for best management practices, assisting regional campuses, and education through social media and public outreach.
