Narrative outlining the data collection process used in the preparation of this report:
Data collection was conducted by the Office of Sustainability and lead by the assistant director. A SharePoint List was created that listed all of the STARS report credits and data points, and for each credit and data point we indicated who the data owner was. This list also served as a contact log and linked to emails/files that were received by the data owner. The assistant director reached out to each data owner and managed all updates to the SharePoint List. Data collection and report preparation took approximately 10 months.
List of personnel who led the reporting process:
Christine Bruckner, Assistant Director of Sustainability
List of additional personnel who contributed to the reporting process:
Elisabeth Reed, Director of Sustainability
Gig Supanichrattana, Business Administrative Associate, Facilities Management
Kristie Toohill, Director of Facilities Operations
Were students involved in the data collection process?:
Narrative outlining how students were involved in the data collection process:
A student worker was responsible for compiling an outreach plan, organizing digital folders for each credit, comparing requested STARS data with other reports/recognitions the University was or will be pursuing, and completing several of the AC and EN credits.
Since we were beginning this process as STARS 3.0 was being launched, the student reviewed each credit and compiled word documents that would be sent to data providers for applicable credits. The student then worked with the STARS report liaison to create a timeline and contact log for most of the credits.
Due to the amount of credits within the STARS report, the student also developed an organizational system for our digital files. This helped keep items in a shared and easy-to-find place.
The University is actively engaged in their next application for the Carnegie Elective Community Engagement Classification and was contemplating beginning the process to complete the Bike Friendly University designation application. As such, the student took the lead on comparing the data/information requested in STARS with these other applications/reports.
Finally, the student audited the University Catalog and campus websites to complete drafts of AC 2, AC 3, and EN 2.
Description of the internal data quality controls used in the preparation of this report:
The lead responsible for completing the report utilized the review template to review each pursued credit. We worked with data providers to ensure that, where possible, the data was coming from the same reporting periods and that all data were accurate.
Were any independent audits or external assurance processes used in the preparation of this report?:
