11.1 Surplus and reuse programs

Surplus furniture/equipment that is no longer needed or used by a department is transported across campus by Facilities Management Movers. Surplus equipment is available at the Property Control Warehouse for reissuance to departments. Surplus equipment can be viewed at the warehouse and requested to be moved to their respective department.
Does the institution have or participate in a reuse program through which employees and/or students can donate personal items for redistribution?:

The Office of Sustainability houses and operates the Share Shop where employees and students can donate all different kinds of personal items (e.g., clothing, small furniture, housewares, shoes, books, etc.) that are then available for free to others that shop the Share Shop.

11.2 Single-use disposable plastics program

The University works with a commercial composter that accepts BPI-certified compostable products. Event, Management, Dining, and Hospitality that coordinates all catered events has transitioned all single-use plastic previously used for catered events to be BPI-certified compostable.

The dining centers have eliminated plastic straws from the dining centers and also eliminated the use of single-use to-go cups. Students are encouraged to bring their own reusable drink container to fill up a drink to go and paper straws are offered as alternatives to the plastic ones.

11.3 Electronic waste management
Does the institution have or participate in a program designed to collect e-waste from students for recycling and/or preparation for reuse? (required):

University Recycling collects e-waste from campus employees and departments at several locations across campus including the Office of Sustainability. In FY 23, just over 50 metric tons of electronics were recycled or repurposed.
