Narrative and/or website URL providing an overview of the innovation:

Originally launched in 2016 as a student project that was then brought to life by a faculty member, Fix It Friday is a free basic mending, sewing, and textile repair service. For its first few years of operation, Fix It Friday would pop up twice a month during the school year at campus and community locations. Run by student volunteers with basic sewing knowledge and skills, Fix It Friday provides campus and community members the opportunity to give their clothing or favorite textile a new life and keep it out of the landfill.

In 2022, Fix It Friday opened its first repair shop in the Office of Sustainability which meant that it had a permanent home. While student volunteers still pop up various places around the community a few times a semester, having a dedicated place for campus and community members to go to get their textiles repaired has been crucial to the sustainability of the program. During the 2022-2023 school year, over 500 items were repaired. That number grew in 2023-2024 with over 615 items repaired.

Over the years, this program has earned many grants and awards including the AASHE Campus Sustainability Achievement Award in 2017.
