6.1 Sustainability-focused community partnerships
Narrative and/or website URL providing an overview of the institution’s sustainability-focused community partnerships:
Faculty from multiple departments have had a long-standing partnership (since 2017) with the City of Bloomington to monitor the local drinking water quality through monitoring of local watersheds. One of the watersheds that is owned by the city is also used as a field site for ISU students. The Bloomington Normal Arbor Day Affiliates is a partnership between five groups who have received Tree Campus/City recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation, inlcuding Illinois State University, the Town of Normal, the City of Bloomington, Westminster Village, and Heartland Community College. The group meets semiannually to plan various events, collaborate on activities and share resources. Most recently the group has hosted a Gingko Tree Tour and an Arbor Day Tree Talk.

6.2 Partnerships to support underrepresented groups and vulnerable populations
Description of the institution’s community partnerships to support underrepresented groups and/or vulnerable populations in addressing sustainability challenges:
Faculty in public health and environmental health partnered with the local Ecology Action Center and the Bloomington Normal NAACP on an environmental justice project to monitor local air quality in the westside of Bloomington which has been known to have disproportionate environmental and public health impacts. The project was awarded a $440,485 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant in whch the team used to install three solar-powered stationary air quality monitors last summer in EPA-designated environmental justice areas within southwest Bloomington and northwest Normal.
