Research provided through ISUReD was utilized for baseline FY 15 (July 1, 2014 thru June 30, 2015) as the base research inventory. The Research Symposium guidebooks for FY 15 and FY 16 were utilized to identify sustainability research utilizing the principals of the Earth Charter as the criteria.

Faculty and faculty mentorships of student research are included in ISU's reporting. Two separate sources were utilized to collect data. ISUReD (open access repository), and the annual Research Symposium descriptions (http://grad.illinoisstate.edu/symposium/). A select collection of research that reflects the principals of the Earth Charter are included on the Office of Sustainability's web-site.
