A brief description of the student research program, including the incentives provided and any positive outcomes during the previous three years:

Through a collaboration of faculty, academic advisors, and the Office of Sustainability research opportunities for students focused on sustainability issues and solutions are provided within specific degree programs and as cross-disciplinary teams.

A brief description of the faculty research program, including the incentives provided and any positive outcomes during the previous three years:

The Office of Sustainability serves as a repository for sustainability related research. While many faculty initiate and conduct research in their areas of interest, the sustainability office works to network those efforts to build inter-disciplinary approaches for sustainability focused solutions. The opportunities for external funding are increased through this approach, and faculty receive additional support through the sustainability office and increased availability of students/interns..

A brief description of the institution’s support for interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary research, including any positive outcomes during the previous three years:

The objective of the Cross-Disciplinary Grant Development Program is to facilitate the development of research that crosses disciplinary boundaries. Many of the higher-level problems confronting society (e.g., climate change, urban education, health care) must be solved through the collective contribution of scholars coming from very different disciplines.

There is also the Outstanding Cross-Disciplinary Team Research Award, which recognizes exemplary collaborative research conducted by multiple investigators from different disciplines.
