The Academic Senate serves the function of an advisory board to advise the President of Illinois State University regarding education policy. The Academic Senate fills an administrative role occupied by personal conferences from the founding of Illinois State University to 1951 when the University Council was established. The Academic Senate has been an integral part of the evolution of Illinois State University’s curriculum development since 1970 when it replaced the University Council. Educational programming includes the development of new degree programs, distribution of significant financial resources, identification of needs for physical space for curricular programming, and teaching methodologies that impact the IT structure of campus.
