The Office of Campus Energy and Sustainability is responsible for co-ordinating and promoting sustainability projects on campus. We coordinate monthly forums, focus on improving energy efficiency, and develop sustainability goals for IIT.

The Office of Campus Energy and Sustainability is the campus-wide coordinating office for all sustainability related efforts at the Mies Campus. Stephen Pepper, the Assistant Director of Sustainability, is responsible for coordinating sustainability efforts across the campus and supervising the staff of sustainability project coordinators.

Key Responsibility
Manage the Office of Campus Energy and Sustainability’s daily operations. This includes handling all PC schedules, setting dates for important events such as monthly sustainability forums, waste collection events, etc. Act as a representative for all university organized events. Handle all office purchases, supplies, maintenance requests, etc.

Responsible for university-wide sustainability goals and for directing programs and initiatives designed to advance a culture of sustainability across campus. Specific goals apply to decreasing energy and water consumption, maximizing waste diversion while minimizing overall waste generation; promoting reuse of surplus goods; increasing external funding of programs; and increasing adoption of green building operating & design standards.
Leads the Office of Campus Sustainability and functions as the central coordinator with the multiple sustainability groups across campus. Engages other university partners to convey the university’s sustainability commitment to prospective students to enhance admissions efforts. Represents the university to regional and local external sustainability consortia and other national sustainability-oriented organizations.
