A brief description of the institution's stormwater management initiatives:
Through a cooperative effort among the Office of Campus Energy and Sustainability and faculty from Environmental Engineering and Landscape Architecture, IIT has created a roadmap for reaching the sustainability goal of managing 100% of stormwater on site by 2020. The first step toward this plan was completed in 2010: documenting the current stormwater management and flows. Currently, students in the Environmental Engineering department are documenting the campus using EPA's SUSTAIN tool to come up with a specific series of best management practices to be applied. The campus already has permeable pavement and native planting test areas, and to meet the stormwater plan goals, the university will implement these and other best practices.
