A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive experience(s) offered by the institution:
ganGreen (Student Activity Group)
Gangreen was initially founded under the Student Government Association as the IIT student Sustainability Committee. In fall 2009 ganGreen registered with the Office of Student Activities as an official student organization and has been active since then. The purpose of ganGreen is to inform and motivate the IIT Student body to participate in the campus's sustainability movement; also to encourage them to provide feedback, and ideas as to how they can incorporate sustainable practice in their day-to-day lives at IIT and beyond; lastly to implement the feedback and suggestions to better IIT and its place in the surrounding community.
ganGreen plays a major role in the three-part sustainability effort at IIT. The
Office of Campus Energy and Sustainability, which mainly is responsible for the operations and maintenance of Sustainable facilities on campus , the Wanger Institute for Sustainable Energy Research (WISER), which is responsible for the sustainable research on campus, and gangrene, which mainly is responsible for spreading awareness among the student body and undertaking student projects to make IIT sustainable. The activities of WISER are integrated with the student activities The WISER Director serves as the ganGreen Faculty Advisor to integrate the campus student and research activities in sustainability.

The Office of Campus Energy and Sustainability is responsible for
the operations and maintenance of Sustainable facilities on campus and serves as a living laboratory for IIT students in sustainability concepts.

Energy/Environment/Economics (E3) Graduate Specialization
The E3 specialization is offered as an interdisciplinary focus of 12 graduate
engineering degree programs. The E3 program is designed to provide the research and training necessary to produce a new breed of engineer specializing in energy technologies who understands the associated environmental and economic forces that drive technology choices.
