A brief description of the campaign(s):
IIT started a campus-wide recycling program, Hawk Recycling. The program began with the university purchasing 4-bin trash and recycling receptacles and a large education campaign involving signage, events, and information distribution. Once started, IIT competed in Recyclemania, a national competition among universities to compete for the best recycling rate. We involved the entire campus of faculty, staff, and students, tracking our rates of previous recycling to our rates for the competition. The students were heavily involved, elevating IIT as the university with the best recycling rate in Illinois for 2010.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign(s):
IIT ranked number one in the state of Illinois for its recycling rate in 2010. The competition worked so well that IIT fell to second place in 2011 because the students were able to reduce the overall waste levels on campus, continuing to keep a high recycling rate while reducing the overall trash sent to landfills.
