The purchasing subcommittee of the Ad Hoc Committee for sustainability has created the Illinois Central College Environmentally Preferable Guidelines for the institution. These guidelines cover the purchase of energy-efficient equipment that is Energy Star certified. Although the guidelines do not specifically reference the EPEAT certification, the EPEAT meets these requirements. The college has standardized to a computer model which is EPEAT Gold certified. Since all computers must be specified and ordered through the Technology Services department, the preference to purchase EPEAT Silver or higher computers and monitors can be followed.
