Data source(s) and notes about the submission:

-Number of academic divisions includes the College of Professional Studies, the College of Arts Humanities & Social Sciences, the College of Natural Resources & Sciences, and a category called “All University” for students who have not declared their major.

-Number of departments includes three non-traditional "departments" not listed at http://www.humboldt.edu/departments, because there are a small collection of courses managed directly by each of the three college deans with the course abbreviations AHSS (Art, History & Social Science- managed by CAHSS), GSP and SCI (Geospatial and Science- managed by CNRS), and AIE (American Indian Education- managed by CPS). Furthermore, some departments listed at http://www.humboldt.edu/departments are actually collapsed into the authority of other existing departments and do not technically stand alone as separate entities. These have not been included in the count of departments here. Examples are that the Theatre Department technically houses Dance and Film courses; the Environmental Systems Masters Program requires courses in a combination of departments such as Environmental Resources Engineering, Geology, Statistics, and Economics; the Natural Resources Graduate Program requires courses in Environmental Science & Management, Fisheries, Forestry/Watershed/Wildland Sciences, and Wildlife (all of which are other standalone departments).

-STARS Coordinator Katie Koscielak worked with Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) staff member Gay Hylton to retrieve the following included numbers:
• Number of students enrolled for credit - 6,615 (from IPEDS 12-month Unduplicated Count Summary 2021-2022)
• Total number of employees - 1,389 total employees = 1,243 (from OBI - IPEDS definitions 11-01-21) + 146 FTE employed exclusively by Sponsored Programs (figure given by Kacie Flynn, Executive Director of SPF, figure emailed on 12/15/2022)
• Full-time equivalent student enrollment - 5,334 (from IPEDS 12-month Enrollment Survey 2021-2022)
• Full-time equivalent of students enrolled exclusively in distance education - 1,005 (from IPEDS 12-month Enrollment Survey 2021-2022)
• Full-time equivalent of employees = 1,56.6 FTE = 1,010.6 (from OBI - IPEDS definitions- 11-01-21) + 146 FTE employed exclusively by Sponsored Programs (figure given by Kacie Flynn, Executive Director of SPF, figure emailed on 12/15/2022)
• Number of students resident on-site - 1,701 (from distinct count dm_erss Oncampus 2021-2022)

-To calculate the number of employees (both headcount and FTE), OIE provided the number of instructional staff and non-instructional staff in core part of campus, which includes many Sponsored Programs regular employees. Since the 2020 STARS report, University Center has been collapsed and moved stateside, so these employees are also included as retrieved from OBI per IPEDS definitions. As a general rule in accordance with IPEDS reporting, students employed for various entities on campus were not counted as employees because they are already included in student counts. Employees of Dining Services (a third party non-stateside entity called Chartwells) and the off-campus book store have been excluded.
-Housing and Residence Life staff member Todd Larsen provided the number of employees resident on-site and the number of other individuals resident on-site.

-Time frame: data reported here (and throughout our report as a default, unless specified otherwise) are representative of the previously complete Academic Year, which was 2021-2022. In accordance with best practices for student and employee counts at University Institutions and IPEDS reporting, we have included data from enrollment and payroll sums during Fall 2021 (or specifically from October 2021, where appropriate).
