A brief description of the diversity and equity committee, office and/or officer, including purview and activities:
The Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion (Centre) provides human rights, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism programs and services to the Humber Community. All Centre initiatives integrate the complex ways that socially constructed identities intersect and interlock. Our work recognizes the multiple layers of identities that are experienced simultaneously. This intersectional and integrative approach is grounded in a practice of care that is woven throughout the Centre’s programs and services.
What We Do:
The Centre for Human Rights, Equity, and Inclusion ensures that equity and inclusion are instilled throughout Humber.
- Increase Human Rights, Equity, and Inclusion Awareness
-Provide human rights, equity, and inclusion training, and harassment and discrimination prevention education through workshops, library exhibits, and educational resources
-We deliver a speaker series with notable presenters on human rights and equity topics.
- Ensure Legislative Compliance
- Strategic Communication and Relationship Building
- Ensure Timely Complaints Resolution
- Co-lead Humber’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committees
Equity and Inclusion Committee
The Humber Equity and Inclusion (EIC) Committee promotes leadership, innovation, collaboration and information sharing on all matters relating to Equity, Inclusion, and the Employment Equity program within the college. The EIC provides assistance to members of the College community in their roles as effective change agents, strategic planners and leadership developers.
AODA Committee
The AODA Committee is an advisory committee reporting to the Director of Human Rights, Equity & Diversity who reports to the Vice-President, Human Resources. The Committee works in collaboration with Humber College with respect to issues relating to enabling compliance with AODA (2005) and promoting full accessibility and inclusion for the Humber Community.
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Taskforce
Humber has convened members of the College and community to join an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Taskforce that works alongside the Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion to establish an institutional framework and strategy for equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). Through a consultative and collaborative process, members of the EDI Taskforce will utilize an intersectional lens to establish and implement an institutional framework and strategy for equity, diversity and inclusion that addresses the needs of both students and employees.

Humber's Centre for Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion coordinates ongoing mandatory training for all faculty and staff on the Ontario Human Rights Code as well as Humber’s Human Rights Policy.
All Humber employees (Faculty, administration, support staff, work-study students) must complete the four mandatory trainings below:

The course also addresses the Ontario Human Rights Code and how the Rights code and the IASR interact and apply to our colleges.
The Centre provides Human Rights, Equity, and Inclusion training, as well as harassment and discrimination prevention education through workshops, library exhibits, and educational resources to support Humbers community through capacity building. The Centre also coordinates a speaker series with notable presenters on human rights, equity, and inclusion topics. Education and training is a key mechanism used to ignite change and foster inclusion. The impact of training and education depends on employees understanding and committing to life-long learning, practicing mindfulness and taking responsibility for building an inclusive Humber. Training offered/provided by Humber’s Centre for Human Rights is open to the entire Humber community (students and academic/nonacademic staff) and is optional.
Some examples of optional EDI trainings/workshops offered by the Centre in 2020-2021 are shown below:

2. Anti-Black Racism II – Microaggressions and Microinterventions
3. Introduction to Racial Macroaggressions
4. Introduction to Gender Diversity
5. Racial Microaggressions in the Virtual Environment
The goal of Humber's human rights training is to provide preventative education and training opportunities to mitigate the risks associated with human rights violations and to foster an equitable and inclusive environment throughout the College’s learning, living and working environments.
All Humber employees (Faculty, administration, support staff, work-study students) must complete the four mandatory trainings below:
