Part 1. Student commute modal split

Has the institution gathered data about student commuting behavior?:
Yes

Total percentage of students that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary mode of transportation:
79.94

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
Student Commuting Behavior data was collected in the Fall of 2022. With the help of the Planning and Project Coordinator in the Institutional of Planning and Analysis department, a survey was released to measure the overall commuting behavior of students. A total of 349 respondents completed the survey.

A computer-generated, stratified sampling procedure was performed to identify approximately 1,380 students across all Humber Campuses (North Campus and Lakeshore Campus) who are registered full-time or part-time. Students who are in Continuous Professional Learning programs were excluded.

A stratified sample is a probability sampling technique in which the researcher divides the entire target population into different subgroups, or strata, and then randomly selects the final subjects proportionally from the different strata. This type of sampling was employed to ensure that the sample of subjects (n=1,381) being used in the research project is proportionate to the total population of Humber College. In proportional stratified random sampling, the size of each strata is proportionate to the population size of the strata when looked at across the entire population. As a result, the data was obtained using a representative sample.

Part 2. Employee commute modal split

Has the institution gathered data about employee commuting behavior?:
Yes

Total percentage of employees that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary mode of transportation:
34.53

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting:
Staff Commuting Behavior data was collected in the Fall of 2022. With the help of the Planning and Project Coordinator in the Institutional of Planning and Analysis department, a survey was released to measure the overall commuting behavior of staff. There was a total of 501 respondents that completed the survey.

With a staff population of 3,044, a minimum of 10% of individuals is required to ensure representativeness of a sample. In the case of the commuter survey, a response rate of 16.5% (n=501) was achieved, surpassing the minimum requirements and yielding a representative sample of responses.
