A brief description of the institution’s community garden:

Humber Lakeshore campus works with Green Artisan Retailers & Designers Environmental Networking Space (GARDENS) and the GARDENS Advisory Council (GAC) to provide fresh and healthy food from community gardens in South Etobicoke

GARDENS is made up of residents, agencies, and community leaders from the Etobicoke-Lakeshore area. The GARDENS mission is food security support for low-income earners, lone-parent families, seniors and people living with disabilities in the area. Humber College collaborates with GARDENS on projects such as the Pod Project and the Community Cookbook.

The Pod Project consists of community gardens with smaller, raised garden beds that use less land space and thus more easily spread out in the community. The food grown in these gardens is donated to local food banks or community members in need. Community gardens are situated on Humber lands and owns the community garden.

In the summer of 2022, GARDENS also co-created a community cookbook featuring recipes curated by members of the community that highlight fresh and healthy produce.
