Humber College does not track the Student Community Service hours were calculated based off of Humber's Student Success Survey in the Fall of 2021 that was distributed by Humber's Institutional Planning and Analysis Department. There was a 40% response rate for this survey, with 10,720 student respondents for the Fall 2021 term. As a result, this survey was distributed and used as a representative sample.
When asked the question "In a typical 7-day week, how many hours do you spend [volunteering]":
-81% said 0 hours/week
-14% said 1-5 hours/week
-4% said 6-15 hours/week and 1% said 16+ hours/week.
From here, we extrapolated these percentages against our entire 2022 student population (38769) to gather the total number of students that participated in volunteering activities and the # of hours (by taking the median of the hour ranges, not the maximum). We then multiplied the amount of hours volunteered in a week across 2 semesters (15 weeks/semester).
