Humber’s Industrial Design students created a structure for a chair for the 19th Humber Industrial Design chair show. One group who created a sustainable design won awards for:
- 1st place overall
- Peoples Choice Award
- Most innovative use of material
They maximized the use of material by creating the entire structure from Birch Plywood. Using simple 2D cuts with a CNC machine, we were able to maximize the yield of material to create the final 3D form. The chair can also be easily disassembled, with no toxic adhesives used in the construction process to ensure that all materials can be recycled properly and reused after the chair is no longer in use.

We have a close relationship with most of the Ontario Colleges. We often collaborate on energy efficiency with Sheridan College and on various things with Mohawk College. In the previous year, the majority of the collaboration has been related to energy efficiency planning and resources.

Ontario College Facilities Management Association (OCFMA) has a cross province metering platform called CEMIS which is used for monitoring energy use for energy efficiency projects in real-time. Humber has been a partner in this since the start of the platform.

Humber and Seneca College has an ongoing mentoring relationship with each other through which it assists the institutions with its sustainability reporting and/or the development of its sustainability program.
