A list of the institution level sustainability learning outcomes:

Humber’s Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILO) framework was first introduced in the college’s 2016-2021 Academic Plan as an academic goal to ensure all Humber graduates can demonstrate mastery of essential employability skills and mindsets. The framework was developed internally from 2016-2018 and approved by the senior executive and the Board of Governors in 2018. During this time, we engaged in piloting and soft implementation with faculty from all academic departments.

The ILOs are interconnected skills and mindsets that help students become career-ready citizens and prepare them for the uncertain future of work – a future in which sustainability, social equity and systems thinking are central. Once fully implemented, the ILO framework will ensure that every Humber graduate, regardless of program area, has engaged with a sustainability mindset in their academic and work integrated learning experiences.

The Sustainability ILO is a tool to guide the creation of sustainability-related outcomes in academic programs and courses. It also helps faculty make intentional choices in the ways in which curriculum is delivered through a sustainability lens. The ILO is described below:

A sustainability mindset enables us to think and act with our collective future in mind. As sustainability-minded individuals, Humber graduates lead by example. They promote sustainable practices in their professional and personal lives. They act responsibly in environmental, economic and social ways that protect our planet and contribute positively to the well-being of our communities.

The Sustainability ILO is supported by Humber College’s commitment to sustainability as one of Humber’s values in our previous (2013-2018) and current (2018-2023) Strategic Plan: “We preserve our collective future.”
