In 2015 Houghton brought online a 2.6 MW solar installation. The solar array produces approximately 35% of the institutes electricity needs and has significantly cut our Scope 2 GHG emissions.

Second Point of Distinction
Center for Sustainability
A brief description of the second program/initiative/accomplishment:
Houghton's Center for Sustainability serves as the hub for our curricular and co-curricular sustainability work. The Center engages students in numerous events and activities throughout the year, provides paid internship opportunities for students, and coordinates our student Eco Reps program.

Third Point of Distinction
Faculty research and teaching on sustainability
A brief description of the third program/initiative/accomplishment:
While Houghton may be a small school, a large percentage of our faculty are involved in research and/or teaching on sustainability-related topics. Moreover, sustainability has been woven across numerous departments on campus, with almost half of all departments offering a course in sustainability and 1/3 of departments with faculty actively researching in sustainability.
