A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:
Houghton College is a 1,200 acre campus located in Allegany County, NY. The main campus includes significant property in the Hamlet of Houghton, including 500+ acres of forest, a significant amount of field space, as well as buildings and maintained space. The institutional boundary for this report includes every aspect of the main campus except the fields leased out to local farmers.
Which of the following features are present on campus and which are included within the institutional boundary?:
Present? | Included? | |
Agricultural school | No | No |
Medical school | No | No |
Other professional school with labs or clinics (e.g. dental, nursing, pharmacy, public health, veterinary) | No | No |
Museum | No | No |
Satellite campus | Yes | No |
Farm larger than 2 hectares or 5 acres | Yes | Yes |
Agricultural experiment station larger than 2 hectares or 5 acres | No | No |
Hospital | No | No |
The rationale for excluding any features that are present from the institutional boundary:
We have two very small satellite campuses, in Buffalo and Utica. Both campuses are extremely small in scope (less than 50 students in each). In addition, both buildings use leased space where we have no control over issues like building or grounds management, or other aspects normally impacting sustainable use of facilities.
We also own multiple large fields on our main campus (larger than 5 acres), which are leased out to local farmers. The crops farmed are corn and hay, but we have little involvement in the farming practices employed by the farmers.
