A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):
For students we offer free counseling services for all students.
For employees, The Human Resources Department has recently renewed our participation with The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) that we have had in place for several years.
As you may recall, the EAP is a benefit to help employees and/or their dependents resolve, through confidential counseling, a wide range of issues that may be of concern to you. Among other things, it is appropriate to contact the EAP with concerns regarding marriage, family, other relationships, substance abuse, emotional stress, financial/legal issues, and much more. They offer unlimited telephonic counseling with professional counselors. Houghton employees and/or dependents are also eligible for four (4) free face to face counseling sessions. Confidentiality is assured, except as prescribed by state or federal law in issues regarding child abuse or impending workplace violence. No information is given to Houghton College regarding who utilizes the services.
Additionally, the EAP has a wide variety of resources available for personal and professional coaching, engagement, work/life balance tools, wellness resources, and many other items. The EAP we participate with is geared towards Higher Ed so there are resources geared specifically for those in the Higher Ed environment.
The EAP has an extensive website with a wide range of information. More information can be found on the HR website (http://www.houghton.edu/campus/human-resources/benefits/) or by logging in to the EAP website (https://www.theeap.com/
