Earlier this year the college President and the Sustainability Director met with representatives of Senator Chuck Schumer's staff to advocate for policies that support strengthening private higher education. During the meeting a strong emphasis was placed on the role of private higher education in supporting sustainability policies and in advancing sustainability work in society.

Houghton College is a signatory to the "We Are Still In" movement, which is a coalition of businesses, cities, states, and universities who have pledged to support the Paris Climate Agreement. As such, Houghton has formally endorsed support for the Paris Agreement.
