Yes, for the past couple of years the Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) and the Office of Sustainability often share content from their repsective newsletters. Each year CDI also shares hiring opporunities for the Office of Sustainability's Hope Advocates for Sustainability Internship Program on the screens in their department and in their newsletter.

There have not been any non-student sustainability positions posted during the reporting period.


Does the sustainability office ensure that sustainability employees complete DEI training?:
Yes

A brief description of the DEI trainings for sustainability employees:

In the spring of 2022 the Hope Advocates for Sustainability Environmental Justice Intern led a portion session during a weekly meeting about DEI and environmental justice. There are plans for this to happen during a meeting in the spring of 2023 as well.

The Director for the Office of Sustainability and the Chief Sustainability Officer regularly attend DEI trainings during professional development training sessions. The Director has also been trained as an Equity Advisors. These Advisors are trained consultants who partner with Human Resources and Culture and Inclusion to achieve our shared institutional goal of excellence and equity in our hiring practices. Equity Advisors support search committees to achieve inclusive hiring practices, which is important to help accomplish Hope’s mission “to educate students for lives of leadership and service in a global society” (Hope College Mission). Equity Advisors assist search committees by increasing awareness, recognizing and identifying potential barriers, leaning into courageous conversations, and navigating hiring policies, practices, and procedures. In the past two years she has served on three hiring teams.

A brief description of events, projects, or initiatives during the previous year developed in collaboration with the DEI office/program and/or organizations that support underrepresented groups on campus:

The Director for the Office of Sustainability the Hope Advocates for Sustainability Environmental Justice Intern meet regularly during the academic year with staff from the Center for Diversity and Inclusion to plan and coordinate events for the campus and greater Holland community.

Since the Fall of 2021 we have had a student in an "Environmental Justice" internship and this student meets regularly with the Director for the Office of Sustainability and the Assistant Director for the Center for Diversity and Inclusion.
