A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:
During February 2017 the Human Resource Department and the Director for the Office of Sustainability created a plan to include sustainability in all new employee training. There is some ability to reach recent hires (from 2016-2017) retroactively, but we had a more robust program created over the summer of 2017 (the next large wave) which has since continued.
Prior to a more formal program all new employees did receive information about:
The "Walk-To-Work" Incentive Program. Details about the program can be found at: http://www.hope.edu/admin/hr/benefits/forms/wtw_brochure.pdf
Hope College students also created a recycling video which was shared with new employees on their HR portal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_f78hJcbt4
During new faculty/staff orientation attendees were given a large reusable canvas Hope bag, a Sustainable Hope brochure, and starting in 2019 a Hope College Cupanion Cup (prior to that they were given a Hope water bottle). These giveaways have continued with each orientation cohort.
Information about the Cupanion Cup project can be found here: https://anchor.hope.edu/campusandbeyond/how-to-make-sustainable-living-your-cupanion/
All new staff receive information about Hope College's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs. The VP for Culture and Inclusive Excellence provides all new employees with Implicit Bias and culture training at orientation. The hour and a half training also reviews Hope College’s practices and commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work as well as resources available to employees.
