Research Inventory
Inventory of the institution’s sustainability research:
---
A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:
Worked with the Sustainability Advisory Committee and the Office of the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs to identify faculty and staff currently involved in such research. We utilized our new program "Faculty Activity Reporting" (FAR) Program to compile our list.
Starting in 2019 faculty started uploading information into our Faculty Activity Reporting System (FAR) in regards to research, scholarship, awards, committee work (campus and community), professional development, etc… The table below lists all faculty members of Hope College during the period listed up above and the following categories which relate to sustainability. We reviewed the list (self disclosure and self categorization) and highlighted projects that appeared to fall into the large category of sustainability. It is important to note that faculty do not have to have all information entered until March 15 so there are likely projects missing from this list.
The total number of academic departments that include at least one employee who conducts research is 24.
And the number of academic departments that include at least one employee who conducts sustainability research is also 24.
So 100% of our departments have at least one person doing some sort of sustainability research and scholarship.
Until now (thanks to FAR) we did not know that.

A few other people not included in our count because they did not have their information in our FAR system at the time of the data pull or they are not faculty (staff and non-tenure track professors do not input data into FAR), however, they have in the past supported/participated in sustainability research themselves or supported student sustainability research.
