A brief description of the student group, including its activities:
SCSD, The Students Council for Sustainable Development, is a student group which was launched in April, 2010 by 8 students who participated in an international COP15-related student event in December 2009. SCSD aims to create the world's most Sustainable Campus and neighborhood and therefore its activities are not limited to its campus. The participation to the group is voluntary. Recent activities include the followings:
- Organized "Sustainable Campus Idea Contest" as one of the events of "Sustainable Weeks"
- Hosted "Candle Night" in cooperation with "Sapporo Candle Night 2012" on the midsummer's day, in which it encouraged neighbors to turn the light off and think about the environment protection.
- Held workshops at elementary schools in the neighborhood as a part of Education for Sustainable Development in practice.
- Held a sub-event "Let's make a candle from waste oil "at the school festival, where visitors could experience making their own candles using waste oil collected from nearby restaurants, and learn how to they can apply at home. The purpose of the sub-event was to teach visitors the importance of recycling oil. About 300 people participated in the 2 days sub-events
