HUISD, Hokkaido University Initiative for Sustainable Development, is a portal site which serves as information gateway to various activities by Hokkaido University for the creation of sustainable society.

The site was launched in April, 2005, and has 124 contents as of August 2012.

The users can retrieve information by keyword search, by order of entry, by organization, or by category.

Students can take advantage of Sustainability Weeks, journals/newsletters, HUSCUP, ESD Archive, among others, to publish and disseminate their research outcome.

1. Sustainability Weeks is an annual program hosted by Hokkaido University, where students can host events and have their own sessions.
See ER-T2-6 for the detail of Sustainability Weeks.

2. Journals and newsletters are issued not only by Hokkaido University as a whole but also by individual departments, and students can contribute their research paper or have column.

3. HUSCAP, Hokkaido University Collection of Scholarly and Academic Papers, is an open research archive which was ranked the 5th among 1,120 institutional repositories in January 2011 by the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC), Spain.

4. ESD Archive is hosted by AUA Project, inter-institutional project on Education for Sustainable Development lead by Hokkaido University, and is available for students/researchers to contribute and retrieve Sustainability-related research outcomes.

5. The Hokkaido University Museum collets about 4 million pieces of research outcomes and specimens, and a portion of its floor is dedicated to exhibition on "Sustainability". Recent research outcomes can be exhibited at the Museum or disseminated through public seminars organized by the Museum.

The institution has requested Univ. Co-op, the operators of its cafeterias, to procure local produce in precedence to non-local one, and to prepare or offer foods/drinks which are free from potential harmful additive. There are posters in the dining areas which describe above-mentioned policies.
