A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):
Hobart and William Smith Colleges recognizes that students, faculty and staff have unique experiences and therefore provides distinct counseling programs for students versus employees.

The Center for Counseling and Student Wellness (CCSW) provides free, confidential services for HWS students, including individual and group counseling; emergency psychological services; and outreach and educational programming. The CCSW also offers psychological consultation to students, faculty and staff as well as parents and families who are concerned about a student.

HWS benefits-eligible employees and their family members can arrange counseling through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The Colleges' provide confidential referral services to 597 benefits-eligible employees and their eligible dependents through BalanceWorks. Benefits include: immediate connections to a mental health professional, counseling referrals, financial and legal consultations, child/eldercare resources, and online access to work/life tools.

All students, faculty, staff, and contract employees of the Colleges, including Sodexo employees, who have been issued a Hobart and William Smith Colleges identification card are eligible to use the Colleges’ Sports and Recreation Center, and all associated wellness programming, by presenting or swiping their ID card. Retired employees receive a lifetime membership upon notification from the Department of Human Resources.
