Environmental Representative Program (EcoReps)
A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
The Office of Sustainability coordinates an Environmental Representative (EcoReps) program, which covers all residential buildings. The program is designed to provide student Environmental Representatives the skills and resources required to work with student residents to meet environmental performance goals. In addition, we have a Green Room Certification, to develop a resident engagement strategy that will help drive overall building environmental awareness and performance.
A brief description of the student educators program’s target audience (1st program):
EcoReps are assigned to work with residence halls and their RA's based on where they live on campus. As part of becoming an EcoRep they are already trained and educated on a wide array of sustainability topics. Thus, the programs they develop with an RA reflect this wide range. For example, there have been movie screenings and discussion about social justice issues. However, the majority of the focus of the program is how to live sustainability in the residence halls and getting Green Room Certified. This includes: meetings with pizza and making custom waste/recycling signs, meetings focused on using cold water for the laundry to conserve energy and taking shorter showers to conserve water, or meetings where everyone was given a "Flip the Switch" sticker to put on light switches all over the residence hall as a reminder to turn off the lights.
