The Office of Sustainability (OS) works across the spectrum of campus and community sustainability, with emphasis on student programming and sustainable operations. Annually, for the past three years, the OS has successfully held an intensive EcoRep training session during which student peer-to-peer volunteer educators learn about campus and local sustainability initiatives specific to waste, energy, water, food, and other important areas. In addition, the OS helped coordinate the first campus celebration of Food Day, which was held in October 2013 and continues to this day. The office has helped lead several other significant efforts, including the annual hosting of Earth Week events and programs; leading the charge during the Global Climate Strike by providing supplies and prepaid postage for campus members to write letters to their representatives in support of climate change legislation then coordinated with HWS Grounds department and several classes to plant a tree commemorating the occasion; and helping to facilitate the installation over 20 bottle refill stations across campus to encourage reusable water use.

OS has been involved with the HWS Fribolin Farm Committee, a group charged with the strategic development of the College's 34-acre farm. In 2017, the Office of Sustainability also oversaw the commitment of three more years of wind energy, in this case, 11,000 MWh/year of green-e certified wind. Cobmined with our 5MW solar farms this ensures that 100% of our electricity is from carbon-free sources.
