A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
sustainability is a core value at HCT, and we seek to communicate this value to new students from their first day on campus. We demonstrate our commitment to building a more sustainable world at orientations through educational outreach programs, by highlighting resources for students, and by setting an example at events through sustainable campus practices. HCT offers a series of orientations for new students during the orientation sessions towards the start of each semester (Sept. and Jan.)
During the orientation, students are given an overview of sustainability at HCT, focusing on the main sustainability pillars related to education, community, operations, research, and planning. The orientation highlights essential sustainability practices, including waste minimization efforts such as recycling and offering more materials online to reduce printing; food service; and promotion of alternative transportation options; programs that support diversity, student achievement, and community engagement; health and wellness resources for students;
While taking the campus tour, students are encouraged to consider including sustainability practices (such as: Reducing paper use by printing less, Turning off lights & electronics when not in use, Participating in sustainability activities, Consider sustainability in Day-To-Day operations, Sort your waste into garbage, compost, and recyclables) during their college daily activities and while they are off campus.
