A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability:

The program was launched in 2016 and, following its success, is renewed every year with the neighbouring school. During few days, elementary school groups are invited to HEC Montréal to discover and learn about the concept of permaculture in urban area, and are welcomed by business students volunteers. The partnership was developed to educate younger students to the concept of permaculture in urban area, especially how we can make our immediate environment more durable using a systemic approach.
In 2020, due to Covid-19, the fellowship was interrupted. Nevertheless, the partnership continues with other schools to maintain the program for when social distancing requirements will be loosened.

As a designated AshokaU Changemaker Campus, HEC Montréal is closely collaborating with ASHOKA to promote social impact in the community. Beyond financial support, as a social impact hub, HEC Montréal shares its expertise with the Ashoka community on various projects. Examples include supporting other campuses in their journey toward the designation, redaction and review of guidelines and books, participation in international panels and conference, etc.

COPEX is a new initiative from the Government of Québec to bring together public experts in energy management to help each other reduce our GHG emissions. HEC Montréal has a strong expertise in energy management at both the academic level, through its chair in energy management, and operation level, with the second-best building energy performance of all the universities in Québec. Participation in the COPEX is one way to expand our expertise beyond the boundaries of our buildings.
