A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, online orientation sessions became the main communication vehicles to reach to our new students.
Pre-Pandemic – Mandatory orientation days were organized for the undergraduate students, with a specific session introducing them to the HEC Montréal sustainability initiatives (water saving measures, waste and recycling, energy initiatives, volunteering programs, sustainability funds, etc.). For certificate and graduate students, a similar session is also organized, but as a welcome cocktail at the beginning of every semester, with various booths that present different school services, including the sustainability office. Other activities, such as online and class presentations on specific sustainability topics are also a very common feature for the school’s sustainability courses and programs.
Post-pandemic – Most welcome activities have been moved online. The same content is delivered to the students, through online broadcasting : HEC Montréal staff and sustainability representative will deliver the same message and information through a live broadcasting from the school studios. Moreover, the pandemic allowed to develop new communication tools to reach new students, such a sustainability- themed podcast series on Spotify and Apple music, and off the record online meeting on sustainability with international students to share the Québec and Montréal lifestyle and culture (Café du Monde).
