For major capital projects, college contractors employ LCCA. For smaller scale projects, life cycle cost analysis is considered in a simpler, more informal form.

To count, the criteria must address the specific sustainability challenges and impacts associated with products and/or services in each category, e.g. by requiring or giving preference to multi-criteria sustainability standards, certifications and labels appropriate to the category. The use of chlorofluorocarbon and halon-containing refrigerants, solvents and other products should be phased out and new purchases for HVAC, refrigeration,insulation and fire suppression systems should not contain these chemicals."

Prioritize the purchase of fuel-efficient or alternative fuel campus vehicles. Palletized shipments should be requested on corrugated cardboard pallets."
