A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:

The Haverford Environmental Studies major is requires all its students to take an environmental praxis course and emphasizes experience working with community groups in a socially just and participatory framework in its learning goals. 


The required course ENVS H204  PLACE, PEOPLE AND COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH IN ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES is described below.


This course focuses on the ethics and practice of community collaboration and community based research in the context of environmental challenges. Students will gain grounding in both theory and practice incorporating themes related to race, class, gender and environmental justice. Students will complete 4-5 hours of fieldwork per week.


 


There are many other examples of sustainability-focued immersive programs offered by Haverford. Haverford's Tri-co Philly program which offers students urban-focused, experiential classes and cohort-based activities in Philadelphia often include sustainabilty focused courses.
