The Green Office Program is a sustainability checklist for offices and departments on campus that covers 5 dimensions of sustainability: Energy conservation, waste prevention and purchasing, recycling, transportation and participation. Offices and departments agree to meet the criteria for one of three levels of sustainability. Silver squirrel, Gold Squirrel and Green Squirrel. Green Squirrel being the highest.
In one office, for example, a lead employee was trained around computer energy settings and was able to teach colleagues how to adjust settings on their own machines. In another office, one office manager learned about recycled paper content and was able to convince colleagues to order paper with higher recycling content.

The Committee on Environmental Responsibility advertises the program, and departmental employees volunteer to serve as coordinators/liaisons to the program.
A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:
Employees that become Green Office Certified receive a tutorial in the program by the Green Office Liaison at that department. This tutorial educates employees on core sustainability aspects affecting their department, including elements of responsible product sourcing, ways to reduce energy consumption, and local waste and recycling practices, etc. These employees then serve as local experts and sustainability resources for their colleagues.

The program falls under the aegis of the Sustainability Coordinator.
