A brief description of the electronic waste recycling program for institution-generated materials:
As old electronic equipment comes in to the Instructional and Informational Technology Services (IITS) they are inventoried and stored in a secured room. Once a month the electronics recycling company buys the equipment as scrap. If there is any residual value they are refurbished and sold on the open market. As part of the agreement, data drives and wires are destroyed by grinding into dust and the metal components are recovered and sold for scrap.
